NEXCareer's Life Planning workshop offers our clients awareness-building exercises that bring forward powerful insights and new perspectives on how their career fits into their life, resulting in confident career choices going forward.

Clients will:

  • Explore the story of their life, their most rewarding moments, and what made them great
  • Identify their most valuable and enjoyable talents
  • Clarify and articulate their personal values
  • Create a personal life vision

In our experience, this important foundational work is a key contributor to each client's rate of progress and ultimate satisfaction.

We have designed the experience of this workshop to be informative, illuminating, and fun.


Our Career Planning workshop has been developed to further focus the client's search for new employment, and to create a detailed game plan for fulfillment.

Clients will:

  • Reconnect to their major career accomplishments and achievements to date, and identify how they specifically contributed to those results
  • Identify their core competencies and related skills
  • Explore their personal career values and career value drivers
  • Develop a detailed and up-to-date career vision
  • Define the elements of new employment that are truly 'fitting' for them. This perspective will be used to target and progress a highly effective and efficient employment search

The Career Planning workshop is vital to the overall construction of the NEXCareer program. The exercises within this workshop are designed to clarify all core elements that will be reflected in each client's resume, cover letter, and interviewing scripts. The key learning from this workshop also generates a high degree of focus for the client's job search and personal marketing efforts.

The ultimate aims of this workshop: to define employment that 'fits', and construct an energizing game plan that meets the self-defined expectations of each client.

Given that 75% of the job growth during the 1990's was driven by an expansion in self employment, we incorporated a session focusing on this key topic.

This half-day workshop will review 'best practices' of the self employed, and will help our Clients to prepare to be their own boss. Clients will additionally receive an overview of the related legal, accounting and other structural requirements that go hand-in-hand with self employment.

Key learning for Clients in this workshop includes:

  • Defining the form of self employment that best suits their situation (e.g. consultant vs.. contractor)
  • Learning the requirements for establishing a proprietary business, including physical set-up requirements and communication strategies, tools and techniques
  • Learning 'what it takes' to build a business

This workshop is facilitated by members of the NEXCareer team who are self employed and/or have launched their own business.


Ernest Hemingway once said “Retirement is the ugliest word in the language.” We spend our entire careers waiting to retire to a fulfilling life. Herein lies the problem for most new retirees. What makes up that fulfilling life? Studies tell us that a full third of people have difficulty adapting to retirement and for very good reasons. Our new generation of retirees, once called Baby Boomers, is retiring in better health, with far more vigour, and longer life-expectancy than any generation in the history of humankind. With all of these great years ahead of you, which amount in essence to a second mid-life, what are you going to do? Our Retirement Workshop will help clients rethink the years they have ahead of them and help them decide what they want out of those years.


In the Personal Marketing Workshop, NEXCareer Clients learn to create and communicate a powerful marketing message about themselves. With personal branding in hand, clients begin planning on how to launch themselves into the marketplace with an efficient and effective personal marketing campaign. An easy-to-use marketing program that includes a weekly planning process and clearly defined action steps is defined.

Foundational “brand you” work done in the Personal Marketing Workshop will link into the Career Management Workshops, helping the NEXCareer Client to set goals and deliverables for their “Master Plan” as they create their personal marketing campaign. Setting this foundation enables clients to find new employment that fits!


The DestinyME™ workshop helps you discover your destiny. In this workshop, you will explore your values and create a vision in line with those values. Through self-assessment, expert advice, and group work you will begin to create and shape your future.

Using our proprietary career mapping tool, you will develop a personal career strategy or road map and you will leave with a clear, personalized action plan.


In this workshop, clients learn to create powerful communication materials that clearly convey their achievements and transferable skills.

This workshop has been developed based upon NEXCareer's in-depth knowledge of best practices and is backed by our comprehensive library resources.

Clients will gain valuable insights and receive easy-to-use templates to support their development of powerful resumes and cover letters.

Following the completion of this workshop, clients are encouraged to book a time with NEXCareer’s Career Planning Consultant for one-to-one consultation on their communication materials.


In this workshop, clients will learn how to effectively map out their job search with tools and techniques used by professionally trained recruiters that can ultimately help them find the opportunity they are looking for.

Our Search Strategy workshop provides a hands-on approach to setting a solid plan, identifying preferred company profile and industry, and your role.

Key learning in this workshop includes:

  • A ten step process to setting a solid search strategy
  • Standard methods of research
  • Research skills and tools
  • An understanding of what information is important
  • A guide on how to plan and execute your calendar

Networking is a critically important element to successful career transition. Most employment opportunities are never advertised. The 'unadvertised' market has been estimated at four times the size of the 'advertised' market, reinforcing the idea that most jobs are filled from personal networks. In fact, statistics show that greater than 67% of people are obtaining their next position through networking.

With this in mind, it is important to learn how to identify, build and maintain a professional network.

Interviewing is one of the most critical steps in new employment – be it as an employee or entrepreneur. In this workshop, clients learn from the experts – Executive Search Trained Professionals – on how to best prepare for and conduct themselves in an interview by applying simple tools and strategies. Skills gained in the Resume & Communications Workshop are applied in this workshop.

The job offer process is becoming more complicated and requires far more attention to detail than ever before. Gone are the days of the “handshake” deal. Candidates today are being presented with multiple-page, complicated legal documents that can confound and intimidate the unprepared. Once you understand the offer, what do you do with it? Hopefully negotiate it. Our Job Offer and Negotiation Workshop was designed and is facilitated by former recruiters who have written, extended and negotiated job offers and can assist clients in making sense of the process and to develop a negotiation strategy in order to get what they are looking for from their new position.

Key learning in this workshop includes:

  • Understanding why you should negotiate the offer as well as the reasons why you might not
  • Laying out the ground rules for negotiation
  • Walking through the offer process
  • Developing strategy to help you get what you want and need from your offer

Having worked your entire career and become an expert at what you do, with the wisdom and maturity to make excellent decisions, it may be surprising to you that we live in a society that values youth. We are constantly bombarded by anti-aging propaganda where a youthful physique, face and outlook are the ideal. However, as George Bernard Shaw once said “Youth is wasted on the young.” Experienced workers over the age of 45 have the most to offer employers including the intuitive knowledge and excellent judgment garnered from long-careers and mistakes made early on. Unfortunately, experienced workers face increasing ageism in the job market and new barriers often exist for them in re-entering employment. NEXCareer’s “Marketing Wisdom & Maturity” Workshop will help clients understand where these barriers lie and how to be pro-active in overcoming them to find a fulfilling career where their wisdom and experience are valued and respected.


The ability to manage one’s time has been one of the defining characteristics of successful professionals for many years. Time Management is about choices; about being able to do all of the things you want and need to do in the time you have, in order to live a balanced and therefore less stressful life. Over the last three decades many books have been written on the systems and techniques of Time Management as society and technology have increased the demands on our time and as work has crept slowly into what used to be our home lives. It is possible to find a new balance by using techniques that focus on scheduling priorities as opposed to prioritizing schedules. NEXCareer’s Time Management workshop will help clients understand how they perceive and value time, what they want to accomplish, and how to get it done using Third Generation tools and techniques that put them in control of their schedule – enabling clients to get the most out of their time and their life.


The aim of this workshop is to shed light on the relationship between personal style and interpersonal effectiveness, and to evaluate ways to leverage this kind of awareness to enhance performance. To do this, NEXCareer uses "Insights"™, a proven profiling system based upon the work of Carl Jung.

In this workshop, clients will:

  • Review the results of their own Insights™ profile
  • Identify communication strategies that best align to their personal style
  • Evaluate the relationship between personal style and interpersonal and work-related effectiveness

This session will generate valuable self-awareness that clients will apply to subsequent workshops.


NEXCareer offers cutting edge technology and research tools to support clients in their transition. The Online Office Workshop educates clients on how to use those tools – from booking appointments, registering for workshops, to staying up-to-date on activities and events inside the NEXCareer Centre. The Online Office is an “electronic locker”, accessible to NEXCareer clients anytime, anywhere from a web enabled computer.

Clients will use NEXCareer's proprietary tools and data to build their resume, create search strategies and research and track the information that is important to them. Clients will learn the advanced uses of the tools that were created with them in mind - through practical facilitated demonstrations from our workshop facilitators.

Clients will additionally learn how to use NEXCareers' Resources within The Centre - the Customer Care Team, the Research Team, the Library and general business services available to them.

Key learning in this workshop includes:

  • Building an understanding of the Online Office and how it works and functions in relation to personal goals and the NEXCareer Program.
  • Acquainting clients with how to best use NEXCareer's tools - both Online and within The Centre, to quickly obtain the desired results when it comes to managing career transition.

Today, a startling variety of tools and resources exist to support people in their job search. The Research workshop will help clients learn how to use the best tools and resources most effectively.

The expertise of NEXCareer's full-time research team, combined with access to our extensive online information and physical resource library, will enable clients to gather a wealth of information that they are able to build into a customized job search.

Our Research workshop provides a hands-on demonstration of how to use all of NEXCareer's research resources – specifically the Find Me a Job section of the database.

Key learning in this workshop includes:

  • Standard research skills and tools
  • How research fits into the overall plan and its importance
  • Understanding what information is critical
  • Guidance on how to effectively plan a calendar for research

Conducting proper research will yield the most successful results. It is the foundation of a search and is inherently linked to search strategy.


The Self Employment Resources workshop provides an overview of the resources available to those considering self-employment - both hard copy and on-line resources. Learn to effectively manoeuvre NEXCareer's online tools, specifically targeting self-employment resources.

Key learning for Clients in this workshop includes:

  • Researching your product/service
  • Researching the market - need and competition
  • Registering your business
  • Identifying the various resources that exist to aid you in your goals

The Self Employment Resources workshop will help clients learn how to uncover important information quickly - ensuring they go to market with information that is critical to their success as an entrepreneur.
